Premature Babies
The possibility of a newborn baby is viewed as a gift from God. A problem that has been steadily increasing is that of premature birth. About 13 million babies, 10% of all newborn babies, are born 37 weeks before the due date. This causes various defects that can negatively affect the child. Special care needs to be given in order to positively affect the child’s development, vision, hearing problems, and sleep and feeding schedule.
Also premature babies’ growth and development are affected in then babies life. but some of them need extra iron and special formula if the baby is fed in the bottle. Some premature babies may not grow at the same rate as a full term baby because they are small then normal babies. They need 8 to 10 feeding a day and should not wait for more then four hours between feeding because they can get dehydrated. Premature babies often face problems like jaundice, anemia, lung disease, and infections. These problems can get in the way of hunger and eating ability, slowing down growth. For example, supplements may be necessary if your baby was born prematurely, at a low birth weight, or small for gestational age; consistently drinks less breast milk or formula than other babies his age and doesn't make up the difference with food: or has chronic health problems that affect his ability to eats born early have low immune systems, so they are also at risk for infections like pneumonia. Your baby may need a flu shot when she or he reaches 6 months of age. Premature babies might get sicker with the flu than full-term babies
Premature babies also face an increased risk of lasting disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, learning and behavioral problems, cerebral palsy, lung problems and vision and hearing loss. Most premature babies have cross eyes and can get eye diseases called retinopathy. ROP only occurs in babies that were boring very early. Premature babies are more commons to have hearing problems for example if you call their name or you make any noise. In other cases, however, ROP can grow progressively worse. Ultimately the scar tissue contracts, detaching the retina from the choroid, an inner layer of blood vessels underneath the retina. A partial detachment may allow fluid from inside the eye to seep behind the retina, enlarging the area of detachment and further decreasing visual acuity. Complete detachment of the retina will leave the infant blind. .ROP or make it worse, many newborn intensive care units have installed dim lights or covered the babies’ isolates or cribs with blankets. Some signs baby's eyes don't move normally one moves and the other doesn't, for example, or one looks different from the other when moving.
Premature babies have hearing loss and can affect in the babies life. Hearing impairment is the decreased ability to hear and discriminate among sounds. It is one of the most common birth defects. Non-genetic causes include illness or injury before, during or after birth. In some cases, the cause of hearing impairment is not known. About 90 percent of babies with congenital hearing impairment are born to parents with normal hearing. Syndromatic means that the hearing impairment happens with a specific group of birth defects. It’s not the only birth defect a baby has. This type of hearing impairment accounts for about 30 percent of genetic cases (1, 3). Non-syndromatic means that hearing impairment is the only birth defect a baby has. About 50 percent of cases of non-syndromatic genetic hearing impairment are caused by a mutation in a gene called connexin 26. The doctor does some test to check on the babies loss of hearing. The major risk for hearing impairment is heredity but immaturity (preterm birth) is also a risk factor. Preemie babies are also more vulnerable to infections, asphyxia, and hyperbilirubinemia, which are also risk factors for hearing impairment. Hearing loss can also be caused by fluid retained in the middle ear – after infection or because of poor ventilation of the ear.
All premature babies need special care when they are sleeping because if people don’t take care of the baby it is easy to die. Premature babies sleep more hours each day than full-term babies. they sleep for shorter periods of time. All babies, including premature babies, should be put to bed on their backs, not on their stomachs. Use a firm mattress and no pillow. Sleeping on the stomach and sleeping on soft mattresses may increase your baby's risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), which is the sudden and unexplained death of an baby who is younger than 1 year old (usually while the infant is asleep, which is why it is also called "crib death". The parent is going to be scare because they want know what to do and how to put the premature baby to sleep. A premature baby needs more care then a normal baby because when the baby has to sleep and the baby has breathing problems the baby can die easy if the parent is not watching the premature baby.
Finally, the premature needs to be fed eight to ten times a day and the parent should not wait more than four between the feeding time because the premature baby can get dehydrated. At first, the baby may not be strong enough to feed at the breast. Her/he digestion and sucking ability will need time to develop. If she has breathing problems, she/him may become very tired during feeds. Mothers' milk provides important health benefits for premature infants, so whether the parent decides to express milk for a short time or to breastfeed for several months, the milk is an important part of the baby’s treatment plan. For example, your milk provides growth-promoting ingredients called growth factors that help your baby's gut to mature. And it is extra rich in antibodies that protect your baby against viruses and bacteria. This is particularly important for premature babies, who are especially vulnerable to infections. Premature babies who receive breast milk rather than formula are much less likely to develop serious gut problems. There is also some evidence that breastfeeding helps brain development in premature babies. For example, most formula for infants now contains DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid), two types of omega-3 fatty acids that have been shown to enhance mental and visual development in infants and play an important role in brain function. Here's a look at the most common types of infant formula to choose from:
Premature birth is a very complicated and hearting-wrenching situation. with current medicine and technology, this sad burden can be alleviated greatly. Various types of techniques and even certain knowledge can make the difference between life and death. All babies should be able to live a happy and prosperous life, and together with the help of capable hospitals, they too can have a bright future.
